BAEシステムズによって構築され、船はグラスゴーでのGovan造船所から2009年10月に発売されました。
建設やシステム統合の最終段階は、その後の都市で、そのScotstounヤードで行われた、船はそれ以来スコットランドの海域での海上公試を実施しています。

Defence secretary Philip Hammond today placed a £1.1bn contract to power the Royal Navy’s next-generation submarines. The deal with Rolls-Royce will provide new reactor cores for the final Astute-class boat, HMS Ajax, as well as the first of the replacements for the Vanguard-class submarines which carry Britain’s ultimate weapon.
